The filter is intended for color enhancement in video or still images.

      Main filter ideas:
  • Two filter work modes:
  • standard mode
  • professional mode
  • Ways of color photos and video quality enhancement:
  • Retinex - new pixel color depends on neighbor pixels
  • Fuzzy Sets - new pixel color is calulated using weight function (for each of three channels it determines the nearness with the highest possible color)
    •
  • Filter has many parameters which could be different depending on source picture and final goal of filter use

2. Color video enhancement.

Filter parameters: MSUIE, Retinex, FuzzyLogicEnhancement, Auto Levels, Color Mixer.

MSUIE
Histogram transformation. Dark regions visibility improving. Control defines the color threshold of transformation.

Retinex

  • Abstract saturation
    Control color strength.
  • Local effect
    Defines number of neighbor pixels, which are used for current pixel brightness calculation.

FuzzyLogicEnhancement

  • Abstract brightness
    Have an enfluence on brightness.
  • Abstract contrast
    Have an enfluence on contrast.
  • Brightest unchanged color
    Using control you can choose the color threshold of transformation..
  • Conversion between changed/unchanged colors
    Smoothness of transition on threshold of transformation("Brightest unchaged color").

Auto Levels
Automatic levels corrections. Control defines the accuracy.

Color Mixer
Mix result and source pictures colors. Control defines the result picture contribution.

Public MSU video filters
Here are available VirtualDub and AviSynth filters. For a given type of digital video filtration we typically develop a family of different algorithms and implementations. Generally there are also versions optimized for PC and hardware implementations (ASIC/FPGA/DSP). These optimized versions can be licensed to companies. We are working with Intel, Samsung, RealNetworks and other companies on adapting our filters other video processing algorithms for specific video streams, applications and hardware like TV-sets, graphics cards, etc. Some of such projects are non-exclusive. Also we have internal researches. Please let us know via video(at)graphics.cs.msu_ru if you are interested in acquiring a license for such filters or making a custom R&D project on video processing, compression, computer vision.
